Some of you may know that at the end of 2016 our Church had a very thorough examination and report on its condition by our architect. This is called the quinquennial inspection and is carried out on a five year cycle to all Church of England Churches.
It is pleasing to report that no serious problems were noted, though as with all buildings of this age a certain amount of deterioration was recorded. The most serious problem relates to the stone flaking on the tower. This does raise difficulties as it is not possible to get close enough for examination to determine how far the deterioration has affected the structure. To overcome this difficulty we have had to contact a specialist contractor to carry out a detailed examination of the tower with rope access equipment, to take photographs and record any defects which will enable us to obtain estimates and carry out the necessary work to prevent further deterioration.
Therefore you may well in the forthcoming weeks see unusual activity around the Church but this is the reason why.
